Oven cleaning tips & tricks
1. Heavy-duty oven cleaners are usually corrosive material that when getting in touch
with the skin or eyes, might cause irritation or even injury. Furthermore, it can
sometime produce unpleasant vapors, especially when applying it over hot metal.
Therefore, keep wearing PVC gauntlet, protect your eyes, open a window and turn-on
the hood for ventilation when using it.
2. Heavy-duty oven cleaner can damage aluminum parts and Teflon coating. Therefore,
avoid using it on this materials. If you are not sure, try it first on remote corner
before you spread it all over.
3. Don’t ever use heavy-duty oven cleaner to clean inside “self-cleaning oven” or
“continuous cleaning oven” as it might damage their inside special coating.

What is a “heavy-duty” oven-cleaner?
Heavy-duty oven cleaner usually means powerful oven-cleaner/degreaser that can efficiently
remove grease and baked-on fat (carbon) build-up and harden inside ovens or on other
kitchen appliances.
Usually, burnt-on fat can not be removed by the “soft” oven cleaners you find in
the local Supermarket and therefore using the “heavy-duty” one is your only option.
So what is inside this oven cleaners that makes them earn the title “heavy-duty”?
Heavy-duty oven cleaner are usually alkaline/caustic/corrosive detergent (different
names for the same characteristics). Alkaline oven cleaner means that the pH of its
compound is greater than 7. The pH of these oven cleaners are often almost reaching
the maximum pH level of 14.
Heavy-duty oven cleaners will often contain part of the following ingredients: Caustic
soda, Potassium hydroxide, Trisodium phosphate, Monoethanolamine. These materials
can efficiently attacks different layers of the baked-on mess and dissolve it within
minutes.
Therefore, using heavy-duty oven cleaner to remove baked-on grease is simply the
most effective way to get the job done quickly.
Caution: As I mentioned above, heavy-duty oven cleaners can break down fat easily.
As your skin and other body tissues contains fat as well, these material will not
